Independent Marine Environmental Research & Scientific Consultancy

RESEARCH FOCUS

Integrated coastal environmental research

ABOUT NSICEA

Connecting analytical chemistry, ecotoxicology, coastal geochemistry, marine observation and environmental analytics.

Independent marine environmental research and scientific consultancy

NSICEA develops integrated approaches to investigate chemical contaminants, environmental processes and ecological responses in coastal marine systems. Its research framework connects analytical chemistry, ecotoxicology, coastal geochemistry, structured environmental observation and environmental data analysis, with a focus on the North Sea and European coastal environments.

RESEARCH AREAS

Integrated expertise across coastal environmental science

NSICEA integrates chemical, toxicological, geochemical, ecological and observational approaches to investigate coastal environmental systems.

Coastal Ecotoxicology

Contaminant exposure, toxicological mechanisms, biological responses and ecological interpretation in coastal ecosystems.

Analytical & Environmental Chemistry

Analytical strategies for environmental contaminants, marine matrices, separation science, chromatography and mass spectrometry.

Coastal Geochemistry

Sediment–water interactions, contaminant transport, chemical gradients, biogeochemical cycling and environmental fate.

Marine Environmental Observation

Structured observation of coastal conditions, biological indicators, habitat characteristics and anthropogenic pressures.

Environmental Analytics

Integration of field observations with environmental monitoring, oceanographic, meteorological and Earth-observation data.

Integrated Environmental Assessment

Combined interpretation of chemical, physical, biological and ecological evidence to understand environmental condition and processes.

MECOS RESEARCH PROGRAMME

Marine Environmental Contaminant Observation Study

MECOS is an integrated marine environmental research programme focused on contaminant-related processes, environmental conditions and ecological responses in coastal marine ecosystems.

Integrated Observation Framework

MECOS combines structured coastal observation with environmental datasets, ecotoxicological interpretation, analytical chemistry and coastal geochemistry to investigate relationships between environmental conditions, contaminant behaviour, biological responses and ecosystem characteristics.

Environmental conditions → contaminant sources and transport → environmental exposure → biological response → ecosystem condition
